Search "streaming setup" and you'll drown in thousand-dollar shopping lists. The truth is that a great beginner setup is cheaper and simpler than the internet makes it look. Here's what actually moves the needle.

Audio comes first

If you only upgrade one thing, make it your microphone. A clear, warm voice is what keeps people in your stream. A USB condenser or dynamic microphone in the entry-level price range will transform how professional you sound. Position it close — a hand's width from your mouth — and slightly off to the side to reduce harsh pops.

Lighting beats camera quality

A modest webcam in good light looks better than an expensive camera in the dark. A single soft light source in front of you (even a window during the day) removes shadows and makes any camera look sharper. Avoid lighting yourself from behind, which turns you into a silhouette.

Software settings that matter

• Resolution & framerate: 1080p at 30fps is a safe, sharp default. Only push 60fps if your internet upload and computer can handle it comfortably.
